Nasal Decongestant
Action And Clinical Pharmacology: Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic agent that constricts the smaller arterioles of the nasal passages producing a gentle and predictable decongesting effect. Pheniramine is an antihistamine that controls rhinorrhea, sneezing and lacrimation associated with elevated histamine levels in disorders of the respiratory tract.
Indications And Clinical Uses: Prompt temporary relief of nasal congestion due to colds, sinusitis, hay fever or other upper respiratory allergies.
Contra-Indications: Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients and patients receiving MAO inhibitors.
Precautions: Do not exceed recommended dosage because symptoms may occur such as burning, stinging, sneezing or increase of nasal discharge. Do not use this product for more than 3 days. If symptoms persist, consult a physician. To help prevent contamination from nasal secretions, rinse spray tip in hot water after each use. Use of this dispenser by more than one person may spread infection. For adult use only. Do not give this product to children under 12 years except under the advice and supervision of a physician. Keep these and all medicines out of children’s reach. In case of accidental ingestion, seek professional assistance or contact a Poison Control Centre immediately.
Dosage: With head tilted slightly forward, place nozzle loosely to nostril. Spray firmly 2 to 3 times into each nostril. Breathe deeply. Repeat every 4 hours as needed.
Availability And Storage: Dristan Nasal Mist: Each 15 and 30 mL plastic squeeze bottle contains: phenylephrine HCl 0.5% and pheniramine maleate 0.2%. Nonmedicinal ingredients: alcohol, benzalkonium chloride, cellulose, eucalyptol, menthol, purified water, sodium chloride, sodium phosphate and thimerosal.
Dristan Mentholated Nasal Spray: Each 15 and 30 mL plastic squeeze bottle contains: phenylephrine HCl 0.5% and pheniramine maleate 0.2%. Nonmedicinal ingredients: benzalkonium chloride, camphor, cellulose, eucalyptol, menthol, methylsalicylate, polysorbate, purified water, sodium chloride, sodium phosphate and thimerosal.
