Indications And Clinical Uses: Prevention and symptomatic relief of manifestations of allergic states such as hay fever, conjunctivitis, angioneurotic edema, pruritus, rhinitis, atopic eczema, urticaria, dermatitis, drug reaction, rhus dermatitis, insect and spider bites.
Contra-Indications: Hypersensitivity to antihistamines and patients receiving MAO inhibitors.
Precautions: Occupational Hazards: Patients should be cautioned not to operate vehicles or hazardous machinery until their response to the drug has been determined.
Caution recommended for patients with glaucoma, chronic lung disease, prostate enlargement and bladder neck obstruction and in pregnancy or lactation.
Since the depressant effects of antihistamines are additive to those of other drugs affecting the CNS, patients should be cautioned against drinking alcoholic beverages or taking hypnotics, sedatives, psychotherapeutic agents or other drugs with CNS depressant effects during antihistaminic therapy.
Adverse Reactions: Hypersensitivity reactions including skin rashes, urticaria, hypotension and thrombocytopenia have been reported on rare occasions. Drowsiness, lassitude, nausea, giddiness, dryness of the mouth, mydriasis, increased irritability or excitement may be encountered.
Symptoms And Treatment Of Overdose: Symptoms and Treatment: No specific therapy. Treatment should be symptomatic and supportive.
Tablets: Gastric lavage may be tried in an effort to remove disintegrated portions of tablets.
Dosage: Adults: 4 mg every 4 to 6 hours. Children 6 to 12 years: 2 mg every 4 to 6 hours. Children under 6 years: Consult a physician.
Availability And Storage: Each compressed, peach-colored tablet, with a bisect line, monogrammed “W-R”, contains: brompheniramine maleate 4 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: calcium phosphate, cornstarch, D&C Yellow No. 10, FD&C Yellow No. 6, lactose, magnesium stearate and polyethylene glycol. Energy: 3.26 kJ (0.78 kcal). Boxes of 24.
